During the early stages of pregnancy, hormonal changes cause many women to experience nausea and vomiting, which are commonly referred to as morning sickness. These feelings can occur at any time of the day, but many women feel them during the morning hours. Morning sickness is a condition that affects about half of all pregnant women and usually lasts for one to three months.

Some possible ways to prevent morning sickness include:

  • Eating several small meals a day
  • Avoiding greasy, fried foods
  • Keeping dry bread or crackers on your nightstand and eating them before getting out of bed in the morning
  • Drinking ginger ale or soda water, or eating spearmint and peppermint candies may help calm your stomach after vomiting
  • If morning sickness seems excessive or prolonged, please call your doctor or healthcare professional immediately
